Literacy

Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.

Anthony J. AngleoWriter

At The Mulberry House School, we believe that Communication, Language and Literacy are fundamental life skills. They all develop children’s ability to listen, speak, read and write for a wide range of purposes – all of which is essential if they are to be able to communicate effectively in their adult lives. We aim to equip children to be able to express themselves creatively and imaginatively as they become enthusiastic and critical readers of stories, poetry and drama, as well as of non-fiction and media texts.

From the earliest years, the children are exposed to a language rich environment and develop a real passion for reading. Each year we host Book Week events, National Poetry Day and Roald Dahl Day as well as visits by celebrated authors and illustrators, which are important experiences for every young writer and reader.
