As part of our PE curriculum, the children were visited by Team GB 100m hurdler, Yasmin Miller and Arsenal under 18s team member, Dominic Thompson. Yasmin and Dominic commenced the day’s activities with an inspirational assembly for the Prep classes, sharing their journeys to becoming the fantastic athletes they are today. Both athletes explained the extreme dedication involved in their 8 to 10 hour a day training regimes and the value of a balanced, healthy lifestyle. They also highlighted the importance of adopting a growth mindset, of thinking positively and setting personal goals in order to succeed in not only sport, but life in general. Following the assembly, Yasmin and Dominic took on the roles of guest coaches in Coach Marc’s PE lessons for the day. After demonstrating their impressive talents, they called attention to the importance of stretches before physical activities in order to reduce the risk of injuries. They then led the children in their warm-ups and got stuck into the fun of the lessons where the children practised their hurdling, sprinting and relay technique!
