Sports Day

House pride was high as the Prep classes assembled at Willesden Green Sports Centre for a fun-filled afternoon of sporting activities. With conditions outside so salubrious, events were taken indoors but this did nothing to dampen the sporting spirit of the children. With stakes so high, the desire to win the coveted House Cup was like a palpable fog in the air. Ahead by 25 points, Sycamore were determined to defy the odds and defend their 2018 title, but, not far behind, White Oak, Hawthorn and Eastern Hemlock planned to climb the points table, keeping up their steady progression in the hope of victory! Demonstrating some fantastic skill and sportsmanship, the children engaged in events such as the Water Race Relay, River Challenge, Cat and Mouse Tail Catch, Javelin Throw and Sack Race. The Penalty Shoot Out and Tug of War events were particular favourites, inspiring a great deal of competitive spirit, even from our spectators! As time progressed, so did the tension. Mums, dads and teaching staff took to the starting blocks to show off their own sporting prowess in order to help earn the last few points on offer for their houses. After what felt like weeks of waiting, Sports Day was rapidly drawing to a close as the house teams assembled for the awards ceremony. After receiving medals for their fantastic efforts, it was the moment everyone had been waiting for… It was extremely close, but, in the end, with a 70 point lead, it was Hawthorn that would triumph with a formidable 1,525 points! Sports Day 2019 will be remembered as a year of tense competition, exemplary sporting endeavours and slightly bad weather.
