Our Pupil Parliament

In his address to the UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, in May 2002, Nelson Mandela noted that,

History will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday lives of children.” We fully share this belief; the children are our present and they are our future. At The Mulberry House School we are wholeheartedly committed to equipping our pupils with the tools to become assets to our nation and beyond.

Action

Following on from our 2022-2023 Pupil Parliament, we continued to open up nominations and parliamentary candidates from this new year’s Prep classes for putting themselves forwards and sharing their ideas and opinions to help shape the future of the school and wider community. It was truly fantastic to see the children engage with such enthusiasm and democratic spirit. The ideas and manifestos shared as part of each candidate’s campaign during the run up to the election were truly remarkable and we look forward to supporting the children bring these to life over the terms ahead.

A message from our new Prime Minister

Dear friends,

I would like to thank you for your votes during this year’s Pupil Parliament elections and I am so delighted to be elected as your Prime Minister! Also… you definitely have to know this… I feel very honoured to be the first female Prime Minister in the school’s whole history! With my deputy (Judith) and all of the other MPs and Shadow MPs, I know we are going have a fantastic year and do lots and lots of amazing work together. We are going to do so many good things for the school, the community, and even the whole of the planet!

Although the Cabinet and Shadow Cabinet all have lots of ideas that they will introduce for you, we always want to know your ideas too. We are a Rights Respecting School. If you didn’t already know, we just wanted to remind you that we will always respect your right to share your opinions freely (which is Article 13). We will always do our best to take action and keep making the school more and more better. Judith and I have taken over Victoria’s challenge this week to celebrate your right to share your opinions freely, so make sure you take a look be- cause we want to know all of your ideas and suggestions! Each week we promise to check in with the children and teachers in each class in the whole entire school, and we would love for you all to share ideas and suggestions on our Speaker’s Corner using Google Classroom inside school. Lilliana (who is the Prep III MP for Technology) is very professional at how to use it, so she is coming to visit each class next week to show everyone how it works.

Yours sincerely,

Beatrice Sabella

‘Thank you for making me Prime Minster, I am excited to get to work and make the school a better place with my parliament!’
